New machinery is developed when there is new technological advancements. There is new machinery that takes a part of production that originally had to be done by hand and turns it into an automated action. Surface mount technology is a perfect example of such machinery. Surface mount is a way of integrating components directly onto the surface of a printed circuit board.
Compact Automated Surface Mount Pick and Place
Falconer Electronics is very happy to announce the addition of the DDM Novastar LE40V Benchtop Automated Pick and Place with Vision Centering. The LE40V was brought in recently to increase productivity for larger orders requiring surface mount components.
Due to the need for higher volume of product in a shorter time we obtained the machine. The LE40V can produce more of our final product at a faster rate than our trained employees could place components by hand. However, in addition to the larger volume we still need to be as flexible with the smaller runs and higher mix of assemblies as we were with hand placement.
Furthermore with the LE40V our quality will improve while increasing our outflow and decreasing our lead times. With our factory trained staff this additional equipment will ensure that Falconer Electronics continues to produce to the highest quality standards our customers have come to expect.
Surface Mount Machinery System Features
There are many features the LE40V has. Some of these include:
- Placement rate up to 3000cph with a +/- 0.001” accuracy.
- Flexibility for those lower volume higher mix SMT PCB projects
- Maximum travel area of 22” (560mm) x 22” (560mm)
- Fine pitch capability of 15mil
- Compact design
- Virtual placement of components
- Self contained for maximum flexibility and economy of short or larger production runs.
- Flexible feeders to accommodate reels or cut strip components
Advantages of LE40V
There are many advantages to having the LE40V in our facility. This design does not take up an increased amount of floor space. This compact size makes it easier to integrate into our already established floor design.
With the Cognex® Vision System accuracy of surface mount component placement on the printed circuit boards increases. This decreases errors and in turn the amount of reworks needed per board. Especially relevant the decrease in errors can be attributed to the software that is standard with the machine. Therefore, this software has the capability to recognize errors and also to self-diagnose any issues it may have during specific jobs. Also, the LE40V has a range of uses include components as small as the 0201package up to and including 2” (50mm) square body. As well as being equipped to handle loose components the LE40V also has the capability for tape and tube feeder. Therefore the features of the LE40V are perfect for us at Falconer Electronics due to our low to mid volume focus.
